Osceola County Storm and Claim History
- Hurricane Ian flooded Kissimmee in late September 2022: by early afternoon on September 29, city officials said 127 people had been rescued or evacuated from flooded homes, mostly in the northeast part of the city, and officials described the flooding as among the most catastrophic in Kissimmee's history, according to Central Florida Public Media.
- WFTV reported that Ian dropped 19 inches of rain on Osceola County. Shingle Creek hit a historic high on October 1, 2022, forcing the mandatory evacuation of Good Samaritan Village, where 523 seniors lived in independent living, according to Osceola County and WFTV.
- On July 7, 2017, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado with estimated 70 mph winds in the Buena Ventura Lakes area just east of Kissimmee, damaging several single-family homes along a 0.7-mile path, including shingles, carports and pool screen enclosures.
- When Hurricane Charley crossed Central Florida in August 2004, the Kissimmee airport weather station recorded a peak gust of 65 knots (about 75 mph) before the National Weather Service’s Kissimmee AWOS also failed.
- Charley caused widespread damage to houses, roofs, pool screens and cars across Osceola County, much of it from fallen trees, and left 100,000 residences without power, according to the same NWS Melbourne report.
- Average homeowners insurance premium in Osceola County: $2,940 a year with wind coverage, $2,433 without; condominium unit owners $1,278 with wind, averaged across all insurers, insured values and deductibles (Florida OIR, Property Insurance Stability Report, July 1, 2026; data as of March 31, 2026).
