Paterson Storm and Flood Facts
- After the remnants of Hurricane Ida struck on September 1–2, 2021, ABC7 New York reported that rivers in Paterson had still not crested nearly 48 hours later; officials said 60 cars were abandoned across the city, "countless" homes were damaged, and first responders rescued 300 people. Rutgers' New Jersey State Climate Office counted roughly 30 deaths statewide from Ida, most from flash-flood drownings.
- In December 2023, Paterson declared a state of emergency after a Sunday coastal storm, and CBS New York reported on December 19–20 that the Passaic River crested again on Tuesday, "wreaking a second round of havoc on an already waterlogged town," with trucks rescuing people from homes along the river and all Paterson public schools closed on Wednesday, December 20.
- During Hurricane Irene in August 2011, NBC New York reported that the Passaic River crested on Tuesday, August 30, bringing a new round of evacuations in Paterson and Lodi, while flooding continued in Paterson, Little Falls and Montville Township after the state's rivers crested.
- On the Passaic River gauge at Little Falls, where flood stage is 7 feet, the record crest is 17.5 feet on October 10, 1903, and the second-highest is 14.19 feet during Hurricane Irene on August 30, 2011.
- Passaic County was designated for both FEMA Individual Assistance and Public Assistance under the Hurricane Ida major disaster declaration FEMA-4614-DR, declared September 5, 2021.

Does Homeland handle Passaic River flood claims in Paterson?▶
Yes. The Passaic River has flooded Paterson again and again, from Hurricane Irene in 2011 to Ida in 2021 and the December 2023 storm, and Passaic County received a federal disaster declaration after Ida. How long does an insurance company have to respond to my claim in New Jersey?▶
New Jersey regulations require insurers to begin an investigation within 10 working days of notice of a claim, and set a 30-calendar-day period, running from receipt of a properly executed proof of loss, for first-party claims. If more time is needed, the insurer must explain why in writing, with updates every 45 days, unless a clear justification or other law provides otherwise.
Does Homeland serve Clifton, Passaic, and Wayne too?▶
