Allstate and Castle Key Insurance Claim Help

Florida and New Jersey. Call Homeland before you call Allstate.

Short answer: in Florida, Allstate’s home, condo and renters policies are written by Castle Key Indemnity Company (formerly Allstate Floridian Indemnity), so your declarations page may say Castle Key, not Allstate. In New Jersey, Allstate is the third-largest homeowners insurance group.

Before you call Allstate

Call us first. We read your policy, then report the claim to Allstate in writing, with the facts and photos that support it.
Before anything is thrown out, photograph and video every room, the roof and the outside, and keep damaged items. Make only the repairs needed to stop more damage, and keep every receipt.
Talk to us before you give a statement or sign anything, whether it comes from the insurance company or a contractor.
We get the full policy, not just the declarations page, because the endorsements and exclusions decide the claim.

Your deadlines and the insurer’s, in Florida

Notice of the claim must be given within 1 year of the date of loss for a new or reopened claim, and within 18 months for a supplemental claim (Fla. Stat. §627.70132). We give that notice for you.
The insurer acknowledges your claim within 7 days, sends you its adjuster’s detailed estimate within 7 days after the adjuster prepares it, and pays or denies within 60 days of notice unless factors beyond its control intervene (Fla. Stat. §627.70131).
If you disagree on the amount, your options include re-documenting and negotiating, the appraisal clause in your policy, and free mediation through the Florida Department of Financial Services. See every option, compared.

…and in New Jersey

The insurer begins investigating within 10 working days of receiving notice of the claim (N.J.A.C. 11:2-17.7(a)).
It pays a first-party claim within 30 calendar days of receiving properly executed proofs of loss; if it needs more time, it must tell you in writing why, and update you every 45 days (N.J.A.C. 11:2-17.7(c) and (e)).
Your policy sets the deadline to give notice of the loss and to sue, so call us promptly; we read the conditions section and give notice in time.

Where Allstate and Castle Key claims most often need help

Castle Key writes many renters and condo unit policies in Florida, so its claims are often contents and personal property losses: a fire or water loss where every item has to be listed and valued. See renters claims and what to do after a fire.
